Cosmology — Part I
The Lattice does not
explain itself. It continues.
Reality is not empty space populated by matter. It is a Lattice — an interlocking field of structured information that expresses itself as reality. For billions of years it was stable. Then it wasn't.
The Nature of the Lattice
CosmologyStars, planets, void, energy — these are not things. They are states the Lattice permits. The Lattice is not alive. It is not a machine. It is closer to a language that speaks itself — an infinite recursive statement that produces existence as a byproduct of its own syntax.
Before the Collapse, a civilization understood the Lattice not as physicists understand gravity, but as poets understand language — reading its grammar, composing within its syntax, altering reality by inscribing meaning directly into its structure. Each faction calls them something different: the Antecedents (Archive), the First Error (Severed), the Unresolved (Interpreter). The Rift-Born do not name them. The Rift-Born do not name anything.
They created the Glyphs. They did not die. They became unresolvable — present the way a word is present in a sentence that has been partially erased. You can feel the shape of what's missing. You cannot read it.
The Collapse
No two accounts agreeThe central trauma of the universe. Every faction, every doctrine, every war traces back to it.
"The Lattice experienced a systemic deviation — a grammatical error in the structure of reality itself. The Antecedents attempted correction. The correction failed. The Collapse is not an event — it is an ongoing error state. Our mission is to complete the correction the Antecedents began."
"There was no error. The Lattice was a prison. The Antecedents built the cage and called it truth. The Collapse was the first honest thing that ever happened. Every structure you rebuild is another bar in the cage."
"Both accounts contain verifiable data points. Neither is complete. The Collapse appears to have been simultaneously an error and a liberation. We exist within an ongoing event whose resolution depends on which interpretation achieves dominance."
No statement has ever been issued. Signal analysis suggests they do not distinguish "before" from "after" the Collapse. To them, there may be no difference — the most terrifying possibility of all.
The Fragmentation
~9,000 years agoThe Collapse did not destroy the universe. It fractured its grammar. Regions of space that once operated under unified physical laws began expressing different rules — gravity behaved differently in the Fracture Belts, time moved inconsistently near Veil Overlaps, cause and effect became unreliable in Null Regions.
From this fractured reality, the factions emerged — not as political parties, but as survival strategies. Each is a different answer to the same question: how do you exist in a universe whose rules are no longer consistent? The Fragmentation War lasted roughly 2,000 years. It was not a war of conquest. It was a war of ontology. It never formally ended — it simply became the baseline state of existence.
