Part II — The Player

You are a Remnant.
You do not know what that means.

Neither does anyone else — and that's the point. Pilots who emerge from Drift Nodes with no memory, no faction allegiance, and no confirmed origin. Their ships are not manufactured. They are expressed.

What Is Known

Contested

Remnants arrive with no memory, no faction allegiance, and no confirmed origin. Their ships are not manufactured — they are expressed by the Drift Node itself, as if the Lattice is producing them in response to something. Remnants have appeared throughout history, but rarely. In the current Glyph Resurgence, they are appearing with increasing frequency — and this terrifies every faction, for different reasons.

Archive believes

Remnants are correction protocols — tools the Lattice created to restore order. They want to recruit and direct you.

Severed believes

Remnants are proof the Lattice is dying — final spasms of a collapsing system. They want to destroy you before you reinforce the cage.

Interpreters believe

Remnants are the Collapse itself, given form — walking contradictions embodying every unresolved state simultaneously. They want to study you.

Rift-Born react

With no consistent pattern. Sometimes they ignore you. Sometimes they swarm. Sometimes they simply watch.

Ship Evolution

Grown, never assembled

The ship is not a vehicle. It is an extension of the Remnant's unresolved state — extruded from a Drift Node like a crystal forming in solution. At every stage, the ship grows; it is never assembled. No plates are ever bolted on, no components attached from outside. What changes is how far the crystal has thickened and resolved.

Stage 1

Nascent

Raw, unstable, barely holding coherence. The ship flickers at the edges, as if reality hasn't fully committed to its existence.

Stage 2

Resonant

Glyph exposure stabilizes the structure. Weapon systems grow into the crystal's lattice as it thickens.

Stage 3

Interpreted

Dense enough to produce its own resonance. Generates micro-Glyphs in its exhaust trail and shield harmonics. Other ships react to your presence.

Stage 4

Unresolved

A paradox — expressing multiple Glyph states simultaneously. The most powerful and most unstable it will ever be.

The Drifter

Part VI — Identity contested

The universe's central mystery — and it must remain mysterious even as it becomes familiar. The Drifter is a presence that exists between Lattice states, perceived differently by every observer: through Archive instruments, a gap in data. Through Severed perception, a single sustained note that predates the Lattice. Through Interpreter analysis, a contradiction that cannot be catalogued. The Rift-Born avoid the Drifter — the only behavior all Rift-Born share.

Theories accumulate through gameplay. No theory is confirmed. The Drifter does not confirm or deny. The Drifter continues.

01

The Drifter is the last Antecedent — the sole surviving consciousness from before the Collapse, watching from outside.

02

The Drifter is the Collapse itself — not an event but a consciousness, experiencing its own aftermath.

03

The Drifter is the player from a previous cycle — a Remnant who flew far enough and chose to become the question rather than the answer.

04

The Drifter is a Glyph — not a being but a concept, the one that encodes the observer into the observed.

"I have seen this before. That statement is impossible. Both parts of it." The Drifter — rare transmission
